A Day in the Life of a Tree Trimmer

A day in our life

I have been asked many times over the years, “whats it like to get up every day and know you’ll be in a tree”.    Well believe it or not, it’s actually a pretty exciting job.   When I grew up here in Jeffersonville, my friends and I would climb trees all of the time so if you look at it like that, I have always enjoyed playing in trees.   One of my favorite memories was back when I was barely a teenager, a couple friends of mine and myself built a tree house that we played in almost daily.   The only way to get inside of the house was to give the secret code.   I’m not sure if that tree house is still there but the secret code was “cooties”.   Yeah, I know what you’re thinking, but hey give me a break I was about 12 years old.

What its like today for a tree trimming family

Fast forward to 2020 and I’m no longer climbing trees to play in a play house, but I do climb them to trim them up.   Depending on the actual tree and the services we are providing, I may climb the actual tree or use our bucket truck.   I make sure we work very safely as the last thing we want to happen is an accident causing injury to our team or the customer we are working with.   The equipment we use today is much better than we used even 2 years ago.   I’m a believer that you must reinvest in your company to ensure that we are able to provide the best services possible in the safest environment available.

An early morning rise for our tree trimmers

I’m an early bird so I usually roll out of bed at about 5:30 in the morning Monday thru Friday and 6am on Saturdays.   I only do emergency work on Sundays so unless I need to be at a job site, I stay in the sack until about 7am.   My day starts off in the shower, then I make breakfast for my wife and I.   Once the usual bacon and eggs are made, I get her out of bed too and we start our day off together.   Our version of the perfect breakfast is 3 bacon slices, 2 over easy eggs and a bowl of oatmeal with blueberries on top.   I usually make my wife 2 pieces of toast to go with it.   She’s half my size but eats twice as much.   I havent figured out that secret yet.

My crew arrives

Shortly after we wrap up breakfast, my crew starts to arrive and we discuss that days job and jump in the trucks and head to our destination.   Once we get to the work site for that day, we visually walk through the entire job and make sure we know where the property lines are along with the power lines.   We meet with the home or business owner if they are available (sometimes we’ll discuss everything prior to the work day).    We then make sure we know what we are doing with the tree limbs, stumps etc…

Some of our customers want to keep the limbs for firewood and we are ok with that, but can also haul it off.   We take a lunch around noon and it’s usually from 30 minutes to an hour.  Once we get the job completed, we clean up the area and leave it as clean or cleaner than it was before we arrived.

Saying goodbye and thank you

Once we get the area cleaned up, we get with the home or business owner to verify they are happy with our work and then say thank you.   Our thank you’s are truly heartfelt as we know that you could have chosen another tree trimming company in Jeffersonville, but you chose us.   We treat all of our customers like family and alot of our work is from referrals.

Prepare for the next day

Once we get back to my house, which by the way is where our main office is, we prepare for the next day.   We make sure we have enough fuel for the equipment and it’s cleaned up and ready to go.   I thank every one of our team members for a hard days work and we split up and head back to our families.
