Importance of Trees

Importance of Trees

As I grew up in southern Indiana, I’ll admit that I took trees for granted.   I would climb them, take a knife and carve my name in them and even hung a tire swing from a large branch.   I had no idea way back when that a tree is not just something there to play with or play on.   As I have grown older, I have begun to realize that trees play an important role in our daily lives.   Yeah, it took be almost 50 years to figure that out.   I must admit though, even at 50 years of age, I wouldn’t mind hooking a tire swing up to a tree and enjoying a nice sunny afternoon swinging.

Food and Oxygen

Did you know that trees are responsible for helping keep our globe healthy?  I mean, did you know that trees provide oxygen for us to breathe?   Heck I didn’t.   Trees are also good for saving us on utilities by keeping us shaded.   How many times have you sat under a tree and enjoyed the cooler temperature in the shade.   If that tree wasn’t there, you would still be baking in the sun.

Quality of Life

The next time you drive down the street, take a look at the trees around the homes.   How boring would it be if there was nothing to look at as your driving?   Our overall quality nof life is better with trees as they help keep us calm and relaxed.  The next time you’re outside on a breezy day, just relax and watch the leaves blow in the wind.  Ahhhh, it’s so relaxing.

If you have a big enough tree that has a large branch that’s not decayed, why don’t you hang a tire swing on it for your kids?   It will help create memories that won’t soon be forgotten.  I’m 50 and still remember those awesome summer days swinging under the big tree in our yard.

Trees and our Climate

A good healthy tree helps control our climate.   As a child, I could care less about my climate but as a 50 year old, that is a big concern for me.   The leaves help absorb the sun which helps keep the temperature cooler.   Trees also help keep the wind from picking up speed as it deflects off.   Trees also help shield us from rain and snow.   Yeah, you may get wet, but every little bit helps.   Just don’t hang out under a tree in a thunderstorm or you could get fried if the tree gets hit by lightning.

Trees for Food

There are several animals across the world that survive by eating parts of the tree or leave.   Elephants, Giraffes and Koalas come to mind but I’m sure there are others out there.   Most of us like those 3 types of animals and having trees around helps keep them fed.

Home and Business Structure Values

Real estate appraisers will also give your home or business a bump in value if it has trees on the property as it makes the visual much more appealing.   Just imagine selling your home or other structure for 6-7% more than you would have if it didnt have trees.  Yep, it happens every single day.   We recommend planting some trees on your property and enjoy the many benefits and who knows, you may even want to swing on a branch some day.

It really helped when you stated that keeping a healthy tree nearby can improve the quality of life of a homeowner by providing shade and fresh air. We were surprised to see that there was a big oak tree right next to the farmhouse we were sold, and we wondered what we would do with it since my wife has a lot of garden plans. With how much it can benefit us in the long run, it would make sense to keep it around and help it stay healthy, so I’ll find a tree service that can help us trim it and do what we need to do to make it last longer.
